Around the state it’s not uncommon to walk into a dining or bar establishment and see a “liquor license pending” sign. Well, in a story from the Idaho Press-Tribune, if a business doesn’t want to wait for approval, it can lease a liquor license from someone else for around $1,500 per month (the going rate in Boise).
Or, if they want to outright buy one from someone who has already obtained a license, the business better be willing to fork out around $140,000 for it.
Liquor brings in sales to alcohol-related businesses and makes up a big percentage of the revenue they take in.
It’s time to get the State out of the Liquor business. We need an initiative to force the state to sell all liquor stores and the property they set on. The state can take each “area” .. i.e. Idaho falls, Post Falls, etc. create a corporation “c”; one for each area … city .. keep it in local hands … do an IPO for each corporation and sell the shares of stock to the public. ALL FUNDS FROM THE SELL OF STOCK MUST GO TO FUND THE RETIRMENT DEFICETS THE STATE DOESN’T WANT TO TALK ABOUT.
