Idaho liquor sales spike attributed to high liquor prices in Washington

Liquor stores in Idaho and Oregon located near the border with Washington are reporting record liquor sales, which some say is a reaction to Washington privatizing its liquor sales, according to a story in the Idaho Statesman. There were five weekends in June and those times are traditionally high sales days so that is a factor as well though Idaho officials report that July sales are tracking higher as well.

In converting liquor liquor outlets from creations of the state to the private sector, Washington also tacked on 27 percent in fees and charges so the price for liquor in Washington must reflect those charges.
