Rep. Pat Takasugi passes away after prolonged battle with cancer

State Rep. Pat Takasugi, R-Wilder, passed away late Sunday after a prolonged battle with cancer.

The lawmaker was surrounded by family as his battle with a rare form of appendix cancer came to an end. Takasugi, 62, represented District 10 in the Idaho House for two terms. Prior to his service in the Legislature, he worked for 10 years as the head of the Idaho Department of Agriculture.

He is a veteran of the U.S. Army’s Special Forces and a graduate of the College of Idaho. In addition to serving in the House, Takasugi also farmed more than 1,500 acres near Wilder.

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne, and three children. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.

Takasugi missed the entire 2011 legislative session while undergoing treatments for the cancer.  He was replaced by Gayle Batt, who had served as his campaign manager.
