Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden will testify to a U.S. Senate panel Tuesday about state-level law enforcement cooperation between the U.S. and Mexico. Wasden and other attorneys general in Western states are part of the Alliance Partnership, which is working to improve Mexico’s court system and share policy ideas among states in the two countries. Wasden will appear with New Mexico Attorney General Gary King before the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Human Rights Subcommittee in Washington, D.C.
A news release from Wasden’s office said the Alliance Partnership is helping to train 600 law enforcement investigators, 300 prosecutors, and 300 forensic scientists in Mexico. The Alliance Partnership is funded by a grant from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and support from other partners, which include the Council of State Governments, Conference of Western Attorneys General, and National Association of Attorneys General.
Correction: Wasden won’t attend the monthly meeting of the Idaho Land Board, also scheduled for Tuesday morning, but will participate by telephone.
