The Idaho Senate unanimously approved the plan to remove the check off box to political parties on state income tax forms. Both chambers of the Legislature have now approved the plan that could save the state $34,000 a year in money diverted from the general fund to political parties.
Sen. Monty Pearce, R-New Plymouth, spoke briefly before the unanimous yes vote. He said the change could also save some administrative costs in addition to the diverted funds.
The plan is now headed to Gov. Butch Otter’s desk.
