The Idaho Senate approved legislation that would save the state $130,000 a year by changing requirements on some notices printed in local newspapers.  The state would be able to print public notices relating to administrative rules using the standard  small print for legal notices, rather than a specific 7-point font.

“By putting it with other legal notices, it would probably be a little more effective for people who do look in newspapers for these kinds of things,” said Sen. Curt McKenzie, R-Nampa, who backed the legislation on the Senate floor.  He said most people following administrative rule changes usually read notices on a state website dedicated to rules.  All administrative rule changes from state agencies would still need to be printed in the local newspaper that has the highest daily circulation in each county in Idaho

The font change legislation now heads to the governor’s desk.  The House approved the legislation Feb. 12.  The text of the legislation is available here.
