With primary elections less than two months away, Republican contender Vaughn Ward has received a notable endorsement from former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.  The former vice-presidential candidate posted Ward’s endorsement, along with endorsements of two others, on her Facebook page Monday.

In Palin’s own words:

There are three veterans in particular I’ll be supporting this week.

The first is Major Vaughn Ward, a fourth-generation Idaho native who grew up on his family’s farm in Shoshone and is running in Idaho’s 1st Congressional District. Coming from a family with a proud military tradition, Vaughn enlisted in the Marine Corps after college and was finishing up his service when the September 11th attacks occurred. He put his life on hold and heeded his country’s call – serving first as a CIA Operations Officer and later volunteering with the Marine Corps for a combat tour in Iraq, during which he was awarded the Bronze Star with Combat V. After returning from Iraq, Vaughn went to work for the McCain/Palin campaign. I was grateful for his support then, and I’m happy to support him now because I know that he believes in the same commonsense conservative ideals that we cherish. Vaughn knows that real job growth comes from the private sector, not government. He believes in free market reforms, tax relief for families and small businesses, and a return to a constitutionally limited government that lives within its means. He’ll carry the conservative banner to Washington and will rein in the reckless growth of government to get it back on our side. And remember, a vote for Vaughn is a vote to remove the gavel from Nancy Pelosi’s grip. Please visit Vaughn’s website here to make a donation to his campaign, and follow him on Facebook and Twitter.

Palin also endorsed Adam Kinzinger, who is running for Illinois’ 11th Congressional District and Allen West, running in Florida’s 22nd Congressional District.

Ward served as the Nevada state campaign director for Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., who chose Palin for his running mate, during his presidential run in 2008.   He faces state Rep. Raul Labrador, R-Eagle, in a May 25 primary.

Probably as effective as Joe Biden endorsing Minnick

  2. John says:

NOW HEAR THIS, the establishment endorses Ward…

  3. Mitch says:

Exciting! Someone that lives in Alaska and doesn’t hold office is endorsing someone that lives in Virginia and has never held office!

I think the fact that Ward owns a house in Virginia and has lived in DC area so long has confused him. He thinks he is running in DC and not Idaho. He is running a DC style campaign and his money and endorsements are all coming from outside Idaho.

    Mitch.

Military personnel get displaced from their Home of Record during their military careers. Its called being stationed! The fact that the Marine Corps has its Officer Training, Command College, and its Major Training facility in Quantico, VA, which happens to be next door to Langley, VA, and Washington, DC, only shows that the man had sense enough to get a home there to avoid having to constantly moving and renting a place there each time he rotated there. If the majority of his duty station time was in Camp Pendleton, CA, or Camp LeJeune, NC, you would be singing a different tune, but because it was Quantico, and Langley, now the man isn’t from Idaho. Talk about a “DC” style campaign!

Thanks, Dan. That seems to be one of the major complaints I hear about Ward – owning a house in VA. The economy is hurting a LOT of people. Perhaps Ward can’t sell his place in VA due to that and he can’t buy here until it does. If that’s the biggest factor against Ward, he should win in May and again in November. However, I’m with the others… think for yourself. Endorsements mean nothing to me at that level. Local means more, and Ward should be thankful he didn’t get the local Silly, Sali!

  6. MRH says:

So what was he doing in Nevada on the McCain campaign? Is he truly “Idaho at Heart”?

  7. [...] that it will be bringing Republican superstar Sarah Palin to Boise to stump for Ward.  Palin endorsed Ward earlier this year, along with two other veterans of the armed services who are running for U.S. [...]
