An Idaho State Police trooper said that a plan in the Idaho Senate to lower the intoxication level for getting an enhanced DUI would lead to an increase in fines. Sen. Les Bock, D-Boise, is trying to lower the enhanced DUI penalty from a .20 blood alcohol content (BAC) to a .15.
“It would definitely impact people,” said trooper Charles Ketchum. “We run into a lot of people that are into a .15, .16 level. They definitely shouldn’t be driving and are just getting regular DUIs.”
Ketchum said Bock is correct that the enhanced DUI level should have been lowered when the standard DUI level dropped from .10 to .08. Ketchum said police issue roughly 10,000 DUIs a year.
