Idahoans serving in the military could soon get a break if their concealed weapons permit expires while they are in the service. Sen. John McGee, R-Caldwell, introduced a proposal Friday that would waive the $10 penalty for the late renewal of a concealed weapons permit if someone were on active duty.
McGee said he is pushing for the exception to the concealed weapons law after hearing from one of his constituents, whose nephew was fined after returning from Iraq. “She explained the situation to me,” McGee told the Senate State Affairs Committee Friday. “He had gone off to fight in Iraq. Before that, he had a concealed weapons permit. When he returned home, he found out that he was late in renewing his concealed weapons permit. There’s a 90-day period in which he could renew that permit. He did not do so for rather obvious reasons, and he was charged a $10 fine in order to renew that permit.”
The Senate panel approved introducing McGee’s legislation. Concealed weapons permits in Idaho cost $20 and are good for five years. Renewing a permit costs $15.

Why not waive concealed weapon permits for military? They obviously know how to handle a gun.
