The Republican Party of Idaho released a statement Friday claiming Democrat candidate for Governor Keith Allred missed filing his 2009 lobbyist report with the Idaho Secretary of State’s office.  According to that same office, Allred filed as a lobbyist for The Common Interest in 2009.

The full text from the GOP release:

Democratic Candidate for Governor Keith Allred missed the deadline to file his 2009 annual lobbyist report with the Secretary of State. Allred registered with the Secretary of State as a lobbyist in 2009 for The Common Interest.

According to Idaho Code, any lobbyist registered under Section 67-6617 is required to file an annual report with the Secretary of State’s Office.  Failure to file a report could result in a penalty of up to fifty dollars a day, at this point according to statute Allred could be subject to hundreds of dollars in fines. The Secretary of State office’s confirmed earlier today that Allred missed the filing deadline.

“I find it ironic that a lobbyist for an association which prides itself in advocating for an open government free of special interests has chosen to disregard our State’s sunshine laws,” stated Idaho Republican Party Executive Director Jonathan Parker. “These laws were created to police lobbyist activities. Ignoring them can cause citizens to lose faith in our democratic system.”

Allred’s participation with The Common Interest has been under scrutiny since day one of his campaign.  Click here to read IdahoReporter.com’s story on the sparring that took place over Allred’s involvement with the organization. Allred spokesman Shea Anderson said, in an email to IdahoReporter.com, that The Common Interest will be answering the GOP’s charges.

(Note: Earlier in the day, the Allred campaign released a statement critical of Otter’s proposals for the 2010 legislative session.  Read that release here.)

Really packing a punch with this story.

Let’s review: a non-profit, bipartisan effort designed to set its priorities democratically, to study important issues and proceed only where the membership is clearly in favor of a particular course of action.

I can see where the IFF’s news outlet might have trouble grasping the concept.
