The College of Idaho (C of I ) in Caldwell received a $1.3 million grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) that is part of the federal stimulus package to help renovate a science building.

C of I President Marve Henberg credited Congressman Walt Minnick’s office for his help in landing the grant.  Henberg also said the grant money would improve the school’s research training facility.  It will cost C of I $6.5 million for to renovate Boone Science Hall.

Minnick said it was imperative to help the private college in his district.  “This is a critically important project which allows The College of Idaho to expand and meet the growing needs of Idaho students who must compete in a global economy,” Minnick said in  a C of I news release. “This newly renovated and equipped science building ensures that the College continues its tradition of producing excellent scientists and health care professionals.”

The NSF’s description of the award says the renovations will help C of I researchers examine humans’ impact on the Intermountain West ecosystem.  It also said that the grant will help underrepresented populations in science, including female and Hispanic researchers.

It is so interesting to me that on the one hand Congressman Minnick runs on his supposed fiscally conservative record, i.e., he voted against the Stimulus Bill however he continues to come back to Idaho to brag about how he is making sure that Idaho gets its share of that Stimulus money he voted against. One more way that he acts like a Republican instead of a real Democrat. Just who is Walt Minnick and what does he stand for? As far as I’m concerned the Republicans should just let the Dems pay for his campaign and then relax as continues to vote like his Republican colleagues.
